    • Dear University Club Member,

The final permit is IN, APPROVED, and hammers are SWINGING!  We have officially begun the renovation of the 3rd Floor Taft Room!

      This fall, we will have:
      - A new bar and lounge
      - A beautiful balcony overlooking Lytle Park
      - Wine lockers for members’ purchased collections
      - A golf simulator and entertainment area.

During construction, we appreciate your flexibility and understanding.  The noise and traffic should be minimal. We’ll give notice if there are restricted areas beyond the old Taft Room.  Follow our social media for plenty of pictures as we renovate!

The new, energizing area will still honor and complement the other parts of the clubhouse we so love. The Board of Governors was intentional about this renovation being a transformative update that is inclusive of all members’ enjoyment!

To that end, we are asking members to voluntarily donate to the success of the project. Our initial member interest yielded over $100,000 in pledges, $60,000 of which has been collected so far!!  These substantial gifts to the UClub represent only 45 individuals- roughly 11% of the overall membership. That’s STRONG!  Now that construction has begun, there is still room for YOU on the recognition board.  Will you be a part of this revitalizing future of the third floor and your UClub??

Please consider a donation to this project – the most popular donation is $1000/member.  However, we view the greater participation of our membership at any level as an indicator of success! All donors should email Linda Barrett at [email protected] to arrange details (amount, billing, check, and frequency- one time, quarterly, monthly etc). All donations will be publicly recognized in a plaque on the third floor – we’d love to see every member’s name memorialized as a part of this project!

The third-floor project will not only enhance the Club; but build for members an unrivaled downtown social setting. For over 120 years, The University Club of Cincinnati has been a “downtown home” for its members. We have been fortunate to keep member value high, debt low, and our elegant 1800’s clubhouse in good order without compulsory contributions from our members. Your donation NOW has the power to reduce finance payments, increase the club’s operating flexibility, and keep our focus on maximizing member value!

THANK YOU for considering a donation to this revitalization. Your generosity to our University Club makes this Board of Governors proud and eager to serve as we develop the future of your downtown home.

      With gratitude,
      Nick Trelka

Frequently Asked Questions:

Construction:
  • Scope of Activity: The size of the construction zone is approx. 2000 sqft. It will also encompass the eastern facing wall where the new balcony will be installed.
  • Begin and End Dates: We expect construction activity to begin in March 2023 and end in October 2023.
  • Closure: The building site area will be closed to member traffic to ensure safety. Certain areas of the floor, namely the Women’s locker room, Presidents Board room, may remain open or be subject to certain restrictions during defined periods of the construction activity.  Club management will post signage and control access as necessary.
  • Construction Personnel: All construction personnel will be entering/exiting by the back staircase and should only rarely be in other areas of the building
  • Noise: During certain phases (demo, balcony construction), the noise and activity may be significant and members should plan any events or activities at the Club accordingly.
Golf Simulator:
  • Location: The golf simulator will occupy a segment of the third floor adjacent to the bar/lounge space.
  • Type of System: We have entered agreement with Trackman, the world’s leading golf simulator company providing photo-realistic simulated environments, shot accuracy, gaming and entertainment.
  • Wide Range of Game Play: Designed for a wide range of participants….those interested in hyper-realistic golf can play Pebble Beach while those looking for fun and gaming, can play virtual environments like “magic pond” or “capture the flag”
  • Other Uses: When not being used for golf play, the projector can transform into gigantic TV viewing….think March Madness, Bengals, Reds, the Masters!
  • Cost of Golf Sim: Acquisition and installation of the Trackman golf system, the premier system in the industry, will approximate only ~5% of our construction budget, yet has significant potential to actually “pay for itself” via expected contribution to increases in food/beverage sales.
  • Maintenance: the trackman hardware system consists of a gaming computer, large impact screen, and projector system. Depending on use, these items need to be replaced every so often, averaging 5 years. The software is continuously updated by the company and included in our subscription ($2000/yr). This does not seem too difficult or costly to maintain for the club.
Balcony:
  • Size/Materials: Current plans have the balcony projecting approx. 6 feet from the exterior of the building and running approx. 25 feet of the width. It is designed to blend in with and enhance the exterior of the building while providing for open sightlines for those who occupy the space inside.
  • Function: The balcony will be very functional, allowing for several small bistro-style, 4-top tables and a full-length drink rail for standing guests.
Bar/Lounge:
  • Bar Function: It is expected that this becomes the primary bar for club membership. Serving cocktails, wine, and other beverages in the evenings, it will also be a focal point for food service during the lunch hours. Our dumb waiters will be preserved and enhanced as a means to provide connection to the kitchen.
  • Activation of the Space: There are many ideas and options concerning how our new space might be used. Management is considering options for the staffing model, different food and beverage services, and space reservations. These elements will be designed to accommodate the club’s interests.
  • Size/Location: The large U-shaped bar will be an elegant, contemporary expression of the spirit of the UClub. Centrally located in the east end of the space, with views out to Lytle Park, it will seat approx. 7-8 people. It will also function as a serving bar for guests occupying the lounge areas, balcony, and golf simulator spaces.
  • Entertainment Viewing: There are four large screens for TV viewing for sporting events or other entertainment. Two are located in the bar area and two are discreetly fitted into the lounge area. When not in use, these two TVs will double as digital art screens.
